     Highlighted Safety Features
  • Perimeter Laser Curtains: High quality laser safety curtains prevent the catwalk from functioning when personnel/objects have made their way on to the deck.
  • Wireless Remote Control: Eliminates the need for the operator to be manually positioned beside the catwalk. The ability to operate the catwalk from the rig floor puts the operator in an ideal location to be attentive and aware of everything that is happening on the floor.
  • Mechanical Safety Switches: The catwalk has a mechanical safety interlock that prevents actuation of the tubular kickers when the carriage is above deck level.
  • Manual and Remote/Podium Emergency-Stops: Whether from on the ground or on the rig floor, the catwalk can be safely and quickly stopped with any one of many emergency-stop switch locations.
  • Two-Color Paint Scheme with Non-Slip Deck Surface: High visibility/high contrast paint scheme draws attention to moving parts and pinch points to reduce hazards. Non-slip coatings prevent the risk of slipping on the deck.
  • Elevated Strobe Light: A strobe light adds visual confirmation that the catwalk is energized and running. Its location on the top of the winch pole gives line-of-sight to most places around the catwalk and from on the rig floor.
  • On-Site Training: A comprehensive training program that takes place on the rig, not in a classroom ensures that personnel have the best opportunity to learn and have all their questions answered. A hands-on portion of the training reinforces practices and values taught in the written section.

     Power and Control (Standard Equipment)
  • 100 HP 480 VAC 3-Phase Motor: Durable electric motor is the main power source for the HPU and is robust enough for all the catwalk's hydraulic needs. Other voltages are available, as well as the option for an external diesel driven HPU.
  • Axial Piston Pump in a Load Sense System: When combined with proper filtering and maintenance, the axial piston pump offers unmatched durability and efficiency throughout it's lifetime. When used in conjunction with a load-sense hydraulic system, maximum longevity is preserved by keeping the system at minimal pressure until a function is actuated.
  • Integrated Motion Control System: The many variables between operators dictates the need for a motion control system. This ensures that the catwalk will operate in a reliable, predictable, and ultimately safer way than if operated by manual means alone.
  • Hydraulic System Features: As a self-contained system, the catwalk has an integrated cooling circuit that ensures cooling capacity, even when nothing is being functioned. High -temperature and low-oil sensors help protect the system from extreme temperatures and low oil sensors help protect the system from extreme temperatures and low oil conditions which could potentially damage the main pump or other components.

     Pipe Handling (Standard Equipment)
  • Fixed Height V-Door: This is a mandatory part of the catwalk, and is hydraulically raised and lowered for added convenience. It is a direct but equal replacement for your existing V-door. Variable height V-doors are available.
  • Full Length Skate with Pull Back System: The full length skate system enables any measure of tubular to be pushed right up to the floor, from short subs to lengthy casing. The pull back feature guarantees positive engagement when laying down, saving time by bringing the tubular all the way back up, every time.
  • Tubular Kickers (Both Sides): Used to eject the tubular from the carriage in a controlled manner. Depending on the options installed, it is the first step in getting tubular to their racks or Gullwings.
  • Hydraulic Gullwings (Off-Driller Side): Integrated pipe racks that are designed to be used in conjunction with Deck indexers, that enable numerous drill pipes to be racked, and then loaded one-by-one into the carriage by remote. The Gullwings can also be tilted up or down hydraulically to facilitate pick-up or lay-down, respectively. Their 40,000 lb. capacity allows for more production, and less time loading pipe. They are removable to allow for the use of pipe racks (when Pipe Rack Indexers are available). They are also available as an option for the driller side.
  • Deck Indexers (Off-Driller Side): These components of the catwalk deck are used to either roll the tubular into the carriage, or onto the Gullwings/Pipe Rack Indexers. When needed, they can also center the pipe on the deck, facilitating the use of the Alignment Rollers (when equipped). They are also available as an option on the Driller Side.
  • Pipe Rack Indexers (Driller Side): These are arms that are hydraulically actuated, and their purpose is to pick up tubular from pre-existing pipe racks. They are also used to lay pipe down on these pre-existing racks. The indexers are capable of reaching down to 18” pipe racks. They are also available as an option for the Off-Driller side.
  • Alignment Rollers (Driller Side): These are rollers that ease moving pipe back and forth for better placement in the carriage. They rise out of the deck to lift up the tubular, and can retract completely within the deck when not in use. They are also available as an option on the Off-Driller side.

     Others (Standard Equipment)
  • 4-Corner Leveling Jacks: These are jacks placed in each of the four corners of the catwalk and are used to assist in the leveling of the catwalk. They are of value because they are integrated into the catwalk, and no external means of lifting are required.
  • Aluminum Stairs:  One set of stairs is included with the catwalk, usually positioned on the end farthest from the rig. They are hinged to the deck and made of aluminum for ease of storage.
.
     Optional Equipment
  • Hydraulic Gullwings (Driller Side): As described above, but also installed on the Driller Side of the catwalk. Recommended to be used with Deck Indexers (Driller Side).
  • Deck Indexers (Driller Side): As Described above, but also installed on the Driller Side of the catwalk. Recommended to be used with Hydraulic Gullwings (Driller Side).
  • Alignment Rollers (Off-Driller Side): As described above, and used to compliment the Off-Driller Side equipment.
  • Hydraulic Winch (10,000 lb. SWL): A winch mounted on a pedestal at the rear of the catwalk that can be used for numerous purposes, but is mainly used to backup equipment being raised or lowered to the rig floor.
  • Podium Mounted Controls: This package consists of podium mounted controls that are meant to replace the wireless remote. The podium is usually installed permanently on the rig floor, and offers a slight advantage in durability, at the cost of portability.
  • Lighting Package: This package consists of two externally mounted 400 Watt HID work lights, usually installed on the winch pedestal for height. The power is fed from a separate 120 VAC line that runs to the front of the catwalk.
  • Cold Climate Package: This package includes all of the components required for installation of a thermostatically controlled heating system in the oil reservoir. With this system, as long as the catwalk is plugged-in, the hydraulic oil will always be at an optimal temperature for operating the catwalk.
  • EX (Explosion Proof) Package: This package upgrades any relevant equipment in the catwalk (including but not limited to, the motor, remote/podium, and control panel) to meet current NEMA standards pertaining to the operation of electrical devices in explosive atmospheres (IECEx).
  • Hydraulic Pipe Tubs: These pipe tubs are designed to work alongside the catwalk, and are used to store and convey drill pipe. They are stackable and offer an efficient way to store/move large amounts of pipe.
  • Spare Parts Package: A highly recommended assortment of parts and consumables meant for maintaining/repairing the catwalk. This package contains things like filters, seal kits, spare hoses, chain hardware, and the like.
  • Overseas/Extended Commissioning and Training: On Occasion, training is most efficiently administered in a manner outside of our normal training policies. Overseas training (if required) is not usually included in the price of a catwalk, and is therefore considered an option.
